Students will attend a concert and write a two-page (at least 6 paragraphs), typed review of the performance attended. The concert may be of the ‘popular/jazz/folk/R&B’ genres. The concert may be performances at San Jacinto College, or it may be of an off-campus concert at a venue approved by the instructor. The review will include opinions supported by emotional, symbolic (mimetic), and formal (structural) responses. Follow the criteria below: Use terminology learned in the course regarding melody, harmony, rhythm/meter, texture, instrumentation, genre, text setting, etc. Paragraph 1 Discussion of the date, time, venue, audience reaction, etc. Identify key performers, conductor (if applicable), composers, etc. Identify works by title, individual movements (if applicable), year of composition. Paragraph 2, 3 & 4 Discussion of at least 3 musical pieces by title and composer. Paragraph 5 Answer one of the following questions: In what ways did the music impact society, culture, politics, or the environment? What political, social, cultural, or environmental factors influenced the composer/songwriter when writing their music? What influence on political, social, cultural or the environment does the composition/song have on society today? Paragraph 6 Answer the questions below: Did anything in the concert change your own opinions/attitudes on how you view the style of music and/or your own political, social, cultural, or environmental awareness? Include a photocopy of the program from the concert attended. This two-page review should be typed with proper formatting
