Too often, principals find themselves consumed by the daily management of a school (parent concerns, discipline, phone calls, emails, etc.) and lose sight of the need to focus on leading instruction. Because instructional leadership doesnt usually rise to the top of a principal’s to-do list with all of the other fires that occur in a school, it is too easy to push the necessary monitoring and coaching of instruction and teachers to another day. In order for a school to make significant gains in student achievement, a leader that focuses on instruction is crucial. Principals must ensure they schedule time into their daily routine to monitor, coach, and lead instruction in order for academic success to be achieved.
