Consider the following four cases of resistance:
Political vandalism (select a particular case described by Ten-Herng Lai)
School walkouts in protest of gun violence
Protests against Jim Crow laws
A challenging case of your choosing from our class list
In an essay, consider whether in each of the four cases, resistance is permissible or a matter of duty. Be sure to explain what sort(s) of justification, if any apply, and, if none do, then explain why not. Finally, defend your answer by considering the strongest objections to either your conclusion about the cases or to the general justification(s) (or lack thereof) that you propose for them.
Discuss at least two justifications for resistance that appeal first to a general justification to obey the law. Also make sure that you discuss the arguments in at least three class readings, as well as material introduced in lecture.
