They viewed their intellectual mission as both pleasing to God and advantageous to society in general.” While the Catholic Church took a nosedive after 1517, Christianity was still widely and devoutly practiced throughout Europe. Art, science, philosophy, and beliefs were not separated and compartmentalized by the great minds of the Renaissance. Knowledge and faith were woven together to make sense of the world. Can this and should this be done today? Are science and faith compatible or a contradiction?
