In our mini-lecture, we examined a few controversial remarks made by several political, religious, and media figures. What do we mean by the term “controversial remarks”? By controversial, we mean the statements that are the subject of intense public dispute, disagreement, or disapproval. As stated in our mini-lecture, the recent statement by President Trump has sparked a heated response from the public.

“Well, I do think there’s blame — yes, I think there’s blame on both sides. You look at — you look at both sides. I think there’s blame on both sides. And I have no doubt about it, and you don’t have any doubt about it either. … But you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides. … You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down of, to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name.”

What other controversial remarks are you aware of? Each student must search and contribute one controversial remark to our discussion. Remember that those remarks must come from public figures. So not from your Dad, Mom, neighbors, friends, etc… Briefly state why a given remark is controversial and you must provide a source. Let’s limit our scope to race-related controversial remarks.
