Write a statement in your abstract about Type II diabetes being very prevalent in the world. In that case, you don’t need to reference it because, in your introduction, you will talk about Type II diabetes and put in the reference there. Now figure, and table legends can be slightly different as they may have references in them. The reason for this is because in the figure or table you may be including work that was carried out by somebody else, or you may have copied the table or figure from somewhere, and you need to acknowledge the original source. So yes, table and figure legends, they can have references, but abstracts do not. In your assessment, I do not want to see any references in the abstracts. When labelling gels, don’t forget to label the size markers. A good program for producing figures is PowerPoint (or Keynote on the Mac). When using the programs make use of text boxes for labels, the alignment features, and the ability to move objects t o the front or behind other objects.
