Your paper should have a clear argument, thesis, body of examples, and conclusion. You are encouraged to look closely at the film(s) themselves to support your argument, employing close reading. As you develop your argument, consider the social and historical contexts of the film and director’s work. While you research and begin thinking about your paper, you might ask: what was the period in which the film was made? What national contexts, mode of production was the director working in (commercial studios, savant grade film, exploitation film, independent film, underground film, documentary, etc)? What were some of the larger political contexts and climates in which this film was produced? What cinematic traditions is the filmmaker engaging with and/or diverging from? You are required to use at least 6 scholarly sources in researching your paper & in your bibliography. Primary research and historical archival work is encouraged.- since scholarly work on Saudi film is lacking, this is no longer a strict requirement; instead, a close textual analysis should be prioritized – however, any resources or frameworks that you find through other scholars could be extremely useful and insightful if adapted to this question. Note: I also have a word document of what I have written so far titled “women directors essay”. Please continue on from this, changing things if necessary. I have attached some materials that may be useful but not necessary, many of them are news articles.
