1) Problem description: Identify a psychosocial problem of interest, i.e., a phenomenon of
psychosocial pain or distress, experienced in a particular population group, in particular
individuals, families, society or community. As you do research you may well find you
need to narrow your problem down to a specific population, age group, individual,
community. For example, a wider psychosocial problem might be severe mental illness
and a more specific would be parenting for individuals with schizophrenia. Another
example, a wider psychosocial problem might be bullying, and a more specific choice
would be cyberbullying of LGBTQ youth.
2) Identify and describe the critical literature including articles, interviews, etc., relevant to
the psychosocial problem. Using this literature, discuss:
a. The problem’s scope and severity,
b. Ramifications of the problem, and
c. Current intervention strategies related to the problem.
