Create an original character in first person doing part in their daily routine. Take creative risks with language by showing how your character feels and who they are without explicitly telling us. Dont tell us what they feel (angry, sad, agitated) or what kind of person (kind, insecure, violent) they are, show us through their actions. What happens to their face, their body, their breathing, their thoughts, as they feel an emotion?
Take creative risks with language by using literary devices (metaphor, simile) and experimenting with language (run-on sentences, fragments).. the prompt should be on a nervous, skinny, timid guy, scared of facing a fear maybe acting or going out to play sports, and they overcome that. again use literary devices (simile, metaphor). Remember Outstanding work will match language with character, like how Tony Loneman uses similes to describe himself, but they are written with plain, straightforward language, and are never flowery or excessively wordy.
