The purpose of this research is to explore how the current education system contributes to the achievement gap between low-income and minority students and their more affluent and majority counterparts. The current education system in the United States is not providing equal opportunities for all students to succeed. Low-income and minority students are more likely to attend under-resourced schools with fewer experienced teachers, less challenging coursework, and less access to extracurricular and enrichment activities. As a result, these students are less likely to develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in college and in the workforce.
