Assignment Details:
Style and format: MLA

Essay Prompt:
Since the first day of class, youve been considering topics that you would like to research over the course of the semester. This assignment is the first step in creating this semesters research project.

For this assignment, you will need to find a relevant source for your topic; you will be evaluating this source in order to determine whether or not it is, indeed, a good, useful source.

Aim to write a strong, well-planned essay that evaluates the source on the following range of criteria:
ethos credibility*
pathos usefulness
logos relevance to your research project
purpose

*You must include at least one paragraph that evaluates the sources author on the basis of his or her credibility.
Requirements:

The essay must be formatted according to MLA guidelines.
You must use specific quotes and paraphrases from the sources to draw your conclusions.
All borrowed material needs to be properly cited and fully documented in MLA format (both within the text and on an accurate works cited page).
The purpose of this assignment is not to fully explore your research topic. Instead, you will be focusing on the way the author of the source presents the information and evaluating the source for credibility, usefulness, relevance, ethos, pathos, logos, etc.
Your thesis statement should reflect whether or not the source is effective based on an evaluation of the criteria listed above. For example, is the source effective because it provides much logical appeal (logos) in the form of facts and statistics? Or does the strength come from the authors credentials and background or extensive experience with the topic?
In addition to a strong thesis statement, your essay should include an engaging introduction, several well-developed body paragraphs that support the thesis, and a powerful conclusion that reiterates your main ideas.

Question for consideration:
How does the source you have selected fit into the larger conversation of the topic that you will be investigating? For instance, if you are going to be writing about psychological disorders in children, then you may wish to consider how an article about Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) could fit into the overarching discussion on childhood mental illness or medical over-diagnosis.
Below I have attach a example of how the essay should look!
