In Chapter 14 Temperament Is Not Destiny, Goleman discusses “taming the overexcited amygdala.” All of us experience snippets of the ability to control our emotional response such as when we were just in an angry altercation with our strong-willed child, but answer the phone with a kind “hello” and proceed into a cheerful conversation. We find once we end the call, that our amygdala response of strong emotion has dissipated.
