PART 1————-
Unlike the Americas and Oceania, Africa was not isolated from other regions and cultures. One interesting aspect of African history is the way that native African traditions mixed with influences from elsewhere, particularly religious influences. During the period 600-1450 CE, both Christianity and Islam expanded and were, at times, in competition.
Describe the spread of Christianity in Africa, including origins and details of where it was most likely to be practiced. Why was Christianity adopted, and what style/type was most common? Who were the most likely to convert to the faith and practice it? Was it different than Christianity in other parts of the world? Then, describe the spread of Islam in Africa. What advantages did becoming Muslim offer? Who was most likely to convert, and why? Was it practiced differently in Africa, and if so, why? Where do traditional African animist beliefs fit in to all of this? Was race or class a factor in which religion was adopted? Explain.
PART 2——————————-
Instructions: Choose 4 of the most significant events from each region in this module (Africa, Oceania, the Americas) and plot them all on a timeline. The events must have taken place in the time frame covered in this module. Include the year that each event occurred and which continent and culture each came from, as well as an image/video clip that you think best represents this event. This way you will be able to see what was happening around the same time period. You should have a total of 12 key events and images plotted on your timeline.
You may use Microsoft Word, Power Point, or any other software that will allow you to combine images, text, and links or video clips. You may also search the web for a website that will let you create something like this.
Strategy/Tips: Decide what your four key events are for each region.
Africa:
Oceania:
Americas:
When did each event happen?
Plot them on a timeline according to the date.
You should have 12 total.
