Research Aim, Research Objectives and Research QuestionsResearch Aim and ObjectivesThe main aim of this research study is to critically explore how the use of new digital communication channels has affected public confidence in the contemporary Hertfordshire police service. Based on this overarching aim, the following research objectives have been developed:• To clearly identify the material costs and limitations inherent in the Hertfordshire Constabularies services’ diary car appointment system.• To clearly signpost the benefits of the Hertfordshire Constabulary, police service looking into opportunities for members of the public to book their own communication appointments online.• To critically assess how well existing digital communication suite is performing and what further changes are necessary. Research Question and Sub-questionsResearch question: ‘How has the Hertfordshire Constabularies’ recent use of digital communication tools affected public confidence in the diary car appointment system and service more widely?’.Research sub-questions:1. Can we maintain public confidence at the same time as reducing face to face appointments?2. Can we reduce costs to the public purse by utilising technologically mediated contact?3. What technology is available to Hertfordshire Constabulary currently?4. How are other Public Sector Organisations utilising technologically mediated contact?5. Does the role require a warranted Police officer?
