Book: No Future without Forgiveness
In Chapter Two of his book, No Future Without Forgiveness, Desmond Tutu cites a quote over the entrance to a museum at Dachau, the former concentration camp near Nuremberg. The quote, written by philosopher George Santayana reads, “Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it” (29).
Based on what you’ve read, in what ways did the TRC attempt to avoid forgetting the past? (Be specific!) What are your opinions on the idea (not just in relation to South Africa — or Nazi Germany, which we’ve just read about — but in general)?
