Case Study – Should we move to the cloud?
Question:
Today, nearly every organization uses cloud services at varying levels, however some CEO’s and CIO’s still do not trust putting some of their organizations most sensitive data in the hands of a third-party provider.
You work at MKT, Inc., a large, 20,000-employee global marketing strategy firm. Recently, MKT’s homegrown legacy HR software has been experiencing frequent outages, causing delays in payroll processing. The CEO, CIO, and VP for HR, have agreed that it is time to replace the legacy system and they are considering cloud-based solutions.
As a key employee who has a great understanding of IT, the executives have asked you to write a short memo outlining the pros and cons of moving to the cloud, including factors such as cost, security, and maintenance. You have also been asked to identify a few cloud HR/HCM providers that would be worth considering for a large firm.
Prepare a 2 to 3 -page memo achieving the above request, using outside resources whenever possible. Note that charts and references do not count toward the 2 to 3 pages, and should be included as appendices. You can also use tables to show the pros and cons. However, ensure that your selection / recommendation is written in paragraph form as to why that solution was chosen.
