Considering what you know of the “counseling world,” identify an issue that would benefit from advocacy/activism work. Explain the problem as you see it and what kind of change needs to happen to effect social justice for those affected by the issue.

This week’s focus is on how counselors are in a position to be change agents for issues related to social justice.

1. Considering what you know of the “counseling world,” identify an issue that would benefit from advocacy/activism work. Explain the problem as you see it and what kind of change needs to happen to effect social justice for those affected by the issue.

2. My own research is on how people learn to be activists. One thing I learned in my research is that many people have a rather limited view of what activism is. More specifically, people seem to believe that they can only be an activist if they attend rallies or marches. In fact, there are many ways to be an activist. Review the link “Types of Activism” in this week’s folder. What way(s) can you see yourself being an activist? Why do you think you are drawn to those types of activism versus others?
