Critically discuss the significance of sustainability accounting practices and standards on corporate social responsibilityand accountability towards different groups of stakeholders.Guidance: Sustainability accounting and reporting goes beyond the purview of financial accountability of companies to focus onaccountability of companies towards a wider range of stakeholders and resources drawn from natural, social, intellectual and humancapital. Students could choose to focus on the role of impact of sustainability accounting and reporting on one or two groups ofstakeholders and use examples to support the discussion of key points.Promotion and implementation of global sustainability reporting standards by organisations such as GRI, SASB and TFCD has ledto varying outcomes shaped by a number of factors including political will, legislative systems, socio-economic levels of developmentof nation-states as well as characteristics of different industrial sectors. The role and impact of sustainability accounting and reportingpractices on determining the extent of genuineness of CSR initiatives undertaken by private sector entities could be criticallydiscussed in the context of the role of key stakeholders and various political and socio-economic factors that drive the adoption ofthese practices and determine the success of such adoption. The discussion could further focus on the factors that determine successor failure of the adoption of sustainability accounting and reporting practices in terms of increasing accountability and transparency.Brief discussions of contemporary cases such (eg: Volkswagen, Carillion) as well as theoretical perspectives such as institutionalism,stakeholder theory and agency theory could be used to critically discuss these issues.(i) An introduction to your essay(ii) Specific literature review of the key points of focus in the essay and or theories that have been used to discuss these points.(iii) Analysis of your key points/ arguments using an analytic/ theoretical framework or concepts(iv) Discussion of the key conclusions. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the origins and development of social and environmental reporting inpractical and theoretical terms.Critically evaluate social and environmental reporting in the context of the limitations of traditional corporate reportingmodels.Critically evaluate sustainable development, CSR strategies of businesses as well as stakeholder responses toevolution of corporate reporting in the context of social and environmental reporting.
