Choosing the Right Assessment Essay Rubric provided. This requirement addresses NM Common Core Competencies and NAEYC Standards: F.1/3b, F.3/3d, F.6/3a, & F.8/3c. 100 total points possible.
The following NAEYC Professional Preparation Standards are to be discussed in the essay. It might be helpful for organization to use the shortened versions of the standards as headers within your essay.
3a. Understanding the goals, benefits, and uses of assessment-including its use in development to appropriate goals, curriculum, and teaching strategies for young children
3b. Knowing about and using observation, documentation, and other appropriate assessment tools and approaches, including the use of technology in documentation, assessment and data collection.
3c. Understanding a practicing responsible assessment to promote positive outcomes for each child, including the use of assistive technology for children with disabilities
3d. Knowing about assessment partnerships with families and with professional colleagues to build effective learning environments.
Competency F- Assessment of Children and Evaluation of Programs
1 Demonstrate ability to choose valid tools that are developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate; use the tools correctly; make appropriate referrals; and interpret assessment results, with the goal of obtaining valid, useful information to inform practice and decision making.
