Describe a Sub cultural Influences on Symbolic Consumption.
Section 1:
Select one holiday that is observed/celebrated by a particular subculture other than your own (e.g., African American, Hispanic, Asian, Amish, Catholic, Mormon, Jewish, etc.), and give a brief overview of the holiday. Find and embed several print and broadcast ads that relate to and reflect this holiday/celebration.
Section 2:
Interview at least 5 members of the specific subculture (NOT from the same family) to discover what types of products or services are purchased and consumed as part of the observance/celebration of this holiday.
Show each interviewee your chosen ads to determine their perceptions of the ads, the advertised products, the marketer, and the brand.
Section 3: Assess: What are their perceptions of ads that specifically target people of the selected subculture? How do members of this subculture celebrate the holiday you chose (i.e., types of activities, traditions, consumption, food, etc…)? How can marketers encourage consumers from that particular subculture to pay attention to their messages? What are some marketing implications?
