This research paper allows students to demonstrate the depth of their understanding of one specific condition that recreational therapists may work with in the field. Students will apply what they have learned from the course readings and lectures, and find additional information from other reputable sources and use a minimum of 3 peer reviewed journal articles. The paper should be approximately 4-5 pages in length and written in APA format.
The paper will follow the below sequence ALL components must be addressed.
PART I: Description of Diagnosis/Condition
The first part of the paper will provide a description of the condition that you have
chosen. In this description, you should identify:
o The prevalence of the condition in our society
o The etiology (or causes) of the condition
o The diagnostic criteria for the condition
o The recommended course of action/treatment
o The prognosis of the condition
PART II: Effect of Condition and Related Limitations on
Functioning
The second part of the paper will describe how the functioning of individuals is affected when they have this condition. Specifically, you should address (if at all) how this diagnosis has the potential to affect clients:
o Physical functioning
o Cognitive functioning
o Social functioning
o Emotional functioning
Describe how this condition might affect the clients independence in important life activities such as work/school, ability to self-manage their condition, and their leisure and community involvement.
Note whether this impact will be lifelong/chronic or if the effect of this condition is limited to only a portion of the clients lifespan.

PART III: Client Needs and RT Service Providers
Based on sections 1 and 2, write a paragraph discussing the most pressing needs for a client with Rheumatoid Arthritis based on your perspective as a recreational therapist.
Identify at least 2 client goals and an RT intervention that can meet both these goals

Provide a description of the intervention and include the precautions, contraindications, and/or suggested RT leadership considerations based on the intervention chosen and the client needs.
