Evaluate how well you have met these goals at this point in the drafting process.

Purpose: To present a clear and detailed review of the research methods used in 4-7 relevant studies in a specific area of study in the field of nursing. Your goal is to decide on a methodological approach for your research paper and present an argument that demonstrates why that method is appropriate in the context of current work being done in the discipline. Be careful NOT to focus on the intervention methods. For example, if you include a study on a particular treatment for lung cancer, in a methodological literature review you will prioritize the way the researchers determined if the intervention was effective or not, NOT the intervention itself.

Length: Your final draft should be 1200-1500 words long. You will also produce a separate reflection memo of 200-300 words (see below for instructions).

Topic: The topic of your review is up to you, but it must be focused enough that you can find 4-7 empirical studies that have been done in that area.

Audience: You are writing to scholars in the discipline of psychology/nursing.

Rhetorical Situation: This review will be used to demonstrate that you know enough about current methods being used in your area of interest. If you succeed in demonstrating that, the community of scholars will help you as you proceed with an empirical study of your own.

Sources to Consult: We will read texts that help us better understand the audience and genre, but much of the research for this task will be up to you. You will have to find a set of related peer-reviewed empirical studies that all address your chosen area of interest.

Other Specifications:

Your paper must be 1200-1500 words long. The final draft should conform to the format of an APA manuscript.
Evaluation: The instructor draft will be evaluated for points according to the rubric below. This assignment may also be included in your final portfolio. You will receive peer feedback on your first draft and written teacher feedback on your second draft and will have opportunities later in the term to discuss further revisions with your instructor and classmates.

See the next page for feedback/evaluation criteria for this assignment.
