Heros Journey Essay .
Purpose: As we are learning in our studies of the Heros Journey, literature is filled with stories of heroes who tend to follow a similar narrative through common phases of their adventure. Because literature reflects the human condition, this suggests that people in everyday life may also go through phases of a heros journey. This paper, then, offers an opportunity to reflect upon and explore in writing how aspects of Reyna Grandes life relate to key stages in a heros journey.
Expectations for this assignment: In your introduction, be sure to introduce the title of the book, the author, and what your paper is setting out to do. Pay attention to ensure proper punctuation and grammar. Be sure to avoid I statements, such as I think, In my opinion, and I believe. Also avoid announcements such as This paper is going to be about or In this essay I will discuss Include at least three quotes from Grandes memoir. The paper length should be 3 pages, double-spaced. Use the standard MLA heading and format. Remember, A Dream Called Home is a book (but not a novel), so use italics and not quotation marks when introducing the title of the book. Feel free to include one (or more) quote or piece of paraphrased information from an outside source (and include this source on your Works Cited page)information that sheds light on the Heros Journey or that provides an example from the life of a hero, either fictional or actual (but keep your examples brief; your essay is about Reyna Grande, not Superman or Harry Potter). If you quote from one of the Heros Journey documents on Canvas, use the title of the document.
Other tips: Assume that the reader is not familiar with stages in the Heros Journey. For example, instead of writing that Reyna Grande crosses the threshold when she . . . write something such as Grande achieves the stage known as crossing the threshold when she . . .. You should describe and briefly explain the relevant stages of the heros journey and talk about how aspects of Grandes life parallel or approximate those stages, even if they dont fully embody those stages in the manner of a mythic hero. Illustrate the stages of the heros journey that you discuss with specific examples from Grandes life. You can capitalize the stages of the heros journey (e.g., Crossing the Threshold) or put them in quotation marks (e.g., crossing the threshold); whichever you choose, be sure to be consistent.
Do not address every single stage in the heros journey (that wouldnt be possible in a paper of this length). Choose the stages that seem most significant to Reyna Grandes life. Discuss a minimum of three stages and no more than five. Refer to the relevant documents in the Heros Journey folder on Canvas. Dont summarize Grandes life; be sure to connect only the most relevant events and episodes in her life to stages in the heros journey.
