The initial weeks of the semester present a sample of various film genres. Choosing from the films on the syllabus for those weeks, write a critical essay about a single gangster, western, comedy, musical, science fiction, documentary or animation film. Your essay should give a sense of how the particular film you select fits within its genre. In doing so, it′s helpful to convey a sense of that genre′s history and how this film relates to it. How much research you do will depend in part on your thesis. Use MLA-style references for cited research material. Remember, though, that the most important aspect of a critical essay is your own analysis of the film. Also by way of rubric, there is a minimum length of three pages, double-spaced. Due on March 7.
