The chosen question for this essay is “How does Victorian literature envisage communication between social classes?” For this essay, draw from TWO texts: Charles Dickens’s Oliver Twist and George Bernard Shaw’s Mrs Warren’s Profession.
These two texts both have in them depictions of poverty and working class conditions Mrs Warren is a prostitute, forced to be one because society at that time offers her no viable way to make money; Oliver Twist is an orphan. A useful starting point would be to think about how these texts make deliberate attempts at showcasing the working class.
