Identify the many different types of diversity present in the workplace. As you read, reflect on which types of diversity you typically consider when you think of diversity, and which are new or perhaps ones that you did not initially consider as an issue of diversity. Think about the question: What surprised you or was new to you regarding the different types of workplace diversity that exist?

Step 2: Determine track focus
Please review educational studies tracks: (attached) https://www.education.asu.edu/sites/default/files/Ed-studies-career-tracks.pdf (Links to an external site.) and select a track to focus your research on. This should ideally align with your future career goals. If you are selecting a track outside of the list please ensure you discuss this with your instructor.

Step 3: Do general research on diversity issues in your selected track
Explore issues of diversity within your selected track- do not enter the research process with pre-conceived notions. Instead, try to determine what issues are currently being explored within your track. For example, I researched higher education and found that there are many articles about issues of diversity regarding religion on college campuses. There were also articles about gender and race wage gaps, mental health on college campuses, and more!

Step 4: Select an area for specific research- What are the current practices surrounding (diversity issue) in the field of (career track)?
Identify at least 3 reliable resources that will help you further examine a specific issue surrounding diversity in your track. Summarize the findings from these resources in your paper. Identify key issues/problems that currently exist in your track with in-text citations. For example, you might say… “In the Children, Family, and Community Outreach, there is a discrepancy for access to technology between students based on their socio-economic status (Jones, 2019).”

Step 5: Brainstorming solutions
Determine some innovative ideas that could begin to address the diversity issue. Consider completing more research on other fields and how this issue has been addressed appropriately or inappropriately. What changes would you recommend? Remember- there is no one right answer- we are just beginning to think of how we can be more open to considering how to address diversity as leaders in our future careers.

Step 6: Reflection
Consider your experience and reflect on the following questions:

What did you learn about your future career track related to diversity? Were there surprises? Things that were exciting or alarming?
What Aha moments did you have during this process? What are your key takeaways?
