ritically assess that view by making an objection that poses an important challenge to the authors position.

Your assignment is to write an argumentative paper based on the resource provided. You must 1) carefully describe an authors view or position and 2) critically assess that view by making an objection that poses an important challenge to the authors position. In light of the objection you consider, you will need to argue that the authors view is wrong, must be revised, or can be successfully defended from the concern. In explaining your position in relation to the authors view, you should discuss particular claims that the author makes or assumes and give your reasons for why you think those claims are or are not supported. Hence, your paper should not be a mere description of the authors claims. You must make a critical contribution by defending an evaluative claim about the authors view. Imagine that you are writing your paper for other undergraduates who are not in our class and who have not done the reading that is the subject of your paper. You need careful and thorough explanations so that such an audience could follow your paper.

Your paper should be 1500 words (this is about 6 pages). Use Times New Roman with a 12 point font. Use a 1 inch margin (all around). Double-space your paper. Number your pages. Use the reading(s) that are mentioned in the paper topics listed below; outside research is not required or expected. However, if you refer to anyone elses work, you must cite it. Citations are not just for quotations. Anytime you quote, paraphrase, or explain someone elses ideas, you must include parentheses with the authors name and a page number at the end of the sentence. [Here is an example: Some dogs have wings (Hartley, 2).] At the end of your paper, list your references.

Start your paper with a super short introduction. You should identify your topic, state your thesis (what you will argue), and briefly indicate how your paper will proceed.
You can use this paragraph to help you think about your introduction:
In [essay title], [authors name] argues [fill in a claim]. Central to the [authors name]s view/ argument is [fill this in]. I argue that [authors name] is correct/mistaken in this claim because [fill this in]. To show this, I [fill this in].
End your paper with a super short paragraph in which you 1) restate your thesis and 2) stress the importance of your analysis.
