Main goal of these essays is to tell your reader how one text or source is related and/or supports another text or source or lecture.

Goals and Requirements for Essays:

– Must be no less than 3 full pages, using 12 pt font, double space
– Essentially apply MLA to your papers https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_formatting_and_style_guide/mla_in_text_citations_the_basics.html

– Must include Works Cited page 4.

– Using the critical thinking questions, using quotes from the current set of sources with citations, identify ideas or concepts in each reading that connects, contrasts, or amplifies what another source stated.

– basically connect each set of sources to each other

– Essays should not be summarizing the information you read, but identify ideas, concepts, or histories that are found in other sources you read in this section.

– You ARE NOT proving a point by using the sources!!!

– Do not write as if this were a research paper.

– The focus is NOT your opinion. The focus is on the ideas that the authors presented and how they relate and connect to each other.

– ALWAYS Identify the sources and the writers you read (MAIN Sources) and will be quoting. (minimum of 3-4 sources)

– Point out the ideas, concept, or histories you found in each of them. (3 ideas, concept, or histories minimum)

– when you quote you should use the Sandwich Method of Quoting https://woodward.libguides.com/englishpaper/quotesandwich

In other words:

select an idea, concept, or history from one source;

include a lead in,

A QUOTE,

an explanation

AND then lead to the NEXT source that ALSO has the same idea, concept, or history

. (each source MUST have a properly cited quote, use MLA format)
