Multidisciplinary thesis. Cuts a cross public and environmental health and geography My thesis cuts across subject area of geography and environmental health and the conceptual framework should reflect that. I need a detailed literature review to reflect the above topic. Mostly will require conceptualisation and criticality when it comes to the analysis of the literature. the finished paper should be well referenced. Summary of projectSince the escalation of the conflict in the Northeast of Nigeria, increased occurrence of natural disasters (mainly floods) across the country and development-induced displacement, the numbers of displaced persons have been on a steady rise. With nearly 26 million displaced population, most of whom are women and children, Nigeria is experiencing not only a humanitarian crisis but a developmental challenge. It is a common perception that IDPs live in camps. However, most of the worlds’ IDPs live in a wide range of situations such as staying with family and friends, living in uninhabited buildings, renting, and even using makeshift tents in empty lots. IDPs living in informal settings are usually invisible, and do not stand out as those living in defined settings, i.e. camps. The International Displacement Monitoring Centre states that it is twice as likely for national authorities and humanitarian actors to assist IDPs in camps rather than in non-designated camps.Given the significant needs and acute vulnerabilities of individuals affected by displacement, choices must be made in how these their needs are to be met. As a result, questions on systematic structural violence, injustice and inequity arise associated with these decisions, especially when it comes to programs aimed at recovery and reintegration.Consequently, this study seeks to investigate the experiences of women and the elderly, as it relates to access to basic needs, environmental health conditions and wellbeing, living in informal settlements in Abuja. Abuja attracts people from all over the country with the hope of finding work, security and a better life. To date there are no government recognised formal IDP camps in Abuja, even with the increased number of displaced people as a result of flooding and urbanisation as well as those fleeing conflict hot spots in the hopes of finding safety. The overarching aim of this study is to explore the living experience and quality of life of women, young and elderly, living in informal settlements in Abuja, Nigeria, as it relates to basic needs through the lens ofstructural violence and social injustices. The critical questions that this research seeks to address are as follows:1. What are the life experiences and perceived quality of life of women and the elderly living in informal settings?2. How has their livelihood been affected by environmental conditions?3. What challenges exist in accessing lifesaving support and basic amenities?4. What coping strategies and social support do individuals employ to make meaning ofthe situation?5. How can the livelihoods of displaced persons be restored sustainably and without discrimination? This research will help to reveal the link between structural violence and the quality of life of women and the elderly living in displacement.
