This essay aims to look at the impacts of mass tourism on snowdonia. Investigating whether there is an impact on the welsh culture – whether local people see positive or negative impacts of the industry – are tourists welcome in the area – are there any sustainability policies in place to curtail the detrimental impacts. What do locals think of tourism and likewise what do tourists think of the area. This essay looks at ethnographic research that have spoken to tourists and hosts within the area (can be publicly sector) looking at farmers , tourists, local b&b owners, tourist boards etc .. this paper really aims to look at the major impacts that tourism can have on the future and the economy of wales. What I’m expecting to find from this research: Historic colonisation has caused resentment of local people toward outsider communities, thus a strong attachment to welsh heritage is therefore predominant Currently shortage of economic activities means that tourism is a quick and easy industry to get into and therefore the country is heavily reliant on tourism and farming to survive Tourists potentially feel unwelcome and don’t like destination when overcrowded There are taxes now in place to curve second home buying which potentially destroy communities and heritage Detriment to environment I also really want to draw on colonialism and preservation of heritage Is the welsh culture authentic for tourists? Is it something the nation is proud of? What sets apart wales from the other United Kingdom nations https://www.dailypost.co.uk/whats-on/trips-breaks/snowdonias-bleak-future-over-tourism-24020021 https://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/snowdonia-overtourism-wales-travel-walkers-b1907036.html https://doi.org/10.1016/0261-5177(84)90006-2 https://books.google.com/books/about/The_Welsh_Language.html?id=qmCuBwAAQBAJ https://books.google.com/books/about/Why_Wales_Never_Was.html?id=TeyVDwAAQBAJ https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/0160738394000684 – this is a colonial perspective I really do thank you for the help you may provide. General rule of thumb I don’t mind you looking at research outside of snowdonia as long as it is wales and finds similar findings to what is happening within the national park. Also there does not need to be a conclusion – I just would like more research on the given subject that I can finish off later on. Layout: (looking at ethnographic examples etc) Introduction(Following the lines of heritage of wales and historical aspect and culture)Second part more about why tourism is important and what snowdonia is finding e’g overtourism is impacting the culture and causing resentment etc …Third part – From a local perspective of tourismFourth part – a tourist perspectiveFifth part – sustainability measures etc in place by government and local tourism parks and authorities Summarise all findings I have added books, links etc to sort of narrow searches on what I am looking at ☺️ Thank youuu
