What is an international organization?

Answer each of the two following questions (EACH) in a thesis dominated, well written, conceptually and empirically informed essay. USE THE FULL RANGE OF COURSE MATERIALS THAT HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED. Trace the development of the UN by looking at the various meetings and conferences before the charter was signed, the changes or unique structures of the UN, and any procedural or process-oriented developments of this institution. Using these resources, assess the strengths and weaknesses of the UN in terms of its known accomplishments and how well it has supported the major goals of promoting peace and security, while also protecting state sovereignty, primarily in the area of Peacekeeping. What issues or event s have changed or gotten in the way of UN successes? Boutros-Ghali wrote in 1992, the time of absolute sovereignty has passed. What does this mean in terms of peacekeeping operations? (Broadly conceived) Has sovereignty changed? How has peacekeeping expanded since the UN Charter was ratified? In what area or what type of operations was this expansion most visiblewhat kind of peace operation was the immediate result of Boutros Ghalis comments? Are there conditions under which peacekeeping can truly be effective? What are these conditions? What is up with R2P? In what areas do international organizations seem to foster the most cooperation? In what areas do international organizations fail to gather consistent cooperation? Use the appropriate literature to answer these questions. How does R2P support or refute Mearsheimers primary means to these goals? Use the various authors who write directly to Mearsheimer, as well as assigned readings and books that address the value, effectiveness, and potential of international institutions/organizations.
