The Excel spreadsheet “Movie Receipts Data” attached provides domestic box office receipts for the highest grossing movies of all time. These values are in millions of actual (nominal) dollars. Also provided are the Consumer Price Indices from 1936 – 2012. Create a list of the top 12 grossing movies of all time in real (base year 1982-1984) dollars and compare it to the top 12 grossing movies in nominal dollars. Notice that the CPI column gives you the index for several decades. It does NOT match up row-for-row with the movie data. What other factors might be considered in determining the top grossing films of all time?
