The combination of these criteria will result in your grade. 1. It is important to articulate how beliefs, assumptions, and values are influenced by factors such as politics, geography, economics, culture, biology, history, and social institutions. Watch an episode of any television program dealing with older Americans (i.e. The Golden Girls (Links to an external site.)). Look for particular examples of stereotyping (Links to an external site.) about the elderly and discuss your findings. It is important to understand how human behaviors are influenced by social structures, social forces, and individuals. In that sense, how does class conflict (Links to an external site.) affect health and healthcare? Select one racial or ethnic group in America and report your findings regarding the correlation. This will require outside research and a general review of chapter 8, 9, and 15). Please note that for this assignment, ″gender″ and ″sexuality″ don′t qualify as racial or ethnic groups. Using the sociological imagination, how can television and movies perpetuate stereotypes (Links to an external site.) about people who are obese? Why does the U.S. government reject universal health care (Links to an external site.) plans? What social forces are involved? Research former President Obama (Links to an external site.)′s proposed initiatives and compare them to Trump′ (Links to an external site.)s. Be sure to state your research sources. Based on social structures, what are some reasons that life expectancy (Links to an external site.) has increased in America in the past 50 years? Research any Third World country (Links to an external site.). Then, evaluate a rationale for the statistical findings. What does data tell you about the life expectancy within a particular third world country? What have the trends been? Has life expectancy increased? If so, why is that? How do you explain the statistics? Does Demographic Transition Theory help? Make sure you understand what a third world country is. For example, Africa is not a third world country. It is important to enhance our knowledge of the social and cultural institutions of other societies and cultures in the world. In that context, how do the United States and Japan differ in their perspectives (Links to an external site.) on the elderly? What social forces influence how Japanese treat the elderly.
