Title: A guide to X
Aim: To produce a guide for a novice detailing the use of X within (Anatomy/Health Professions/ Medical/Dental etc) Education
Assignment description:
This assignment requires you to produce a guide aimed at the novice educator to introduce them to a particular aspect of the curriculum or issue within an area of anatomy pedagogy.
e.g. A guide to integrating anatomy within a medical curriculum
A guide to the use of ultrasound for teaching living anatomy
A guide to governance within anatomy education
A guide to teaching the brachial plexus using cadaveric and non-cadaveric techniques
The assignment must include:
Title
Aim of the guide (clearly stated)
A short summary or abstract (250 words max)
A literature review with integrated illustrative examples of the topic
5-10 practice/ summary points which will guide the novice
A conclusion (max 250 words)
References
You might want to think about including diagrams and images within your guide but be sure to cite any figures taken from original sources.
Please include illustrative examples of your topic in use. These should provide context for the reader and signpost the clinical relevance of your educational topic.
When constructing your guide you might like to look at the Twelve Tips and BEME guides articles published within the journal Medical Teacher. In addition, Medical Teacher requires all research articles to include relevant practice points. These articles and guides will give you a feel for how to construct a useful and practical guide whilst keeping it grounded within the literature and supported by evidence and best practice.

The guide can be presented as a leaflet, a traditional essay style or in any other way you deem appropriate. Please ensure that whichever format you use, the guide is readable i.e. dont go overboard with fonts etc.
Marking criteria:
The assignment will be marked using the Summative Written Assignment (open book/coursework) marking rubric found on Pages 4-5 of the PGT Marking Rubrics document. Ensure you have familiarised yourself with the criteria before commencing your assignment.

Discuss and critically appraise the key features of different approaches to teaching anatomy, with particular emphasis on dissection and prosection
Critically evaluate the pedagogic implications of using art, virtual and image-based approaches for anatomy teaching and learning
Evaluate the utility of different methods of tissue preservation such as freezing and plastination, as well as the use of fresh tissue, for teaching and learning anatomy
Discuss and critically appraise the different types of assessment utilised within anatomy education
Recognise the legal and social requirements when working with human tissue and introducing students to cadavers
Intellectual and Cognitive Skills
Take a critical stance to a range of academic sources using these to reflect on their own professional context
Professional and Practical Skills
Critically review the alignment of teaching method, level of learning and intended/unintended learning outcomes
