1. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view–until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.
There are many layers to looking at To Kill a Mockingbird with historical criticism. We can look at the time that it reflects, the 1930s, the time in which it was released, the 1960s, or the time in which it is assigned to you – 2022.
Look at the the novel in the context of Black Lives Matter. Why is this novel still important as a coming of age work and as a work that speaks to continued systemic racism in America? Is the focus on a white family problematic? Does the work have value as a coming of age in a racist society story? How does what you learned about the current Broadway production fit in to these thoughts?
