I am discussing a reading aloud to children activity that is taking place through the media.Introduction of the programme:- Its general background- Its link to its predecessor jackanory (similarities and differences discussed)Cbeebies Bedtime Stories identified as an audio visual media , unlike and replacing the audio radio programme Listen with Mother (1950-1980) already discussed in the previous chapter. Discuss the replacement of only audio to audio visual performance of a reading aloud to children.- First appearing as a TV programme- Later, in addition to TV being a digital channel programme- Cbeebies websiteThen move to 3 episodes as case studies to investigate the representation, the techniques used, the content portrayed in this Bedtimes stories programme.1- Discuss the setting and scenery portrayed- participants in making the episode: performer, team workers editiors- the simplicity of setting_The importance of a seating for the performer ( this detail recalling and referencing to the term “Are you sitting comfortably?” so popularly used in the radio programme Listen with Mother) so rather than voicing it, it is carried out as visual image of the performer siiting down whilst reading aloud to the viewers. 2- Discuss the title and its significance to viewers, and participants3- Discuss the presenters in general- the presenter being one person performing the reading aloud- The presenter’s intimate relationship to viewers captured through direct eye communication and tone of voice- a different performer for each episode. A big number of performers annually.- celebrity performers which is important in attracting grown ups and children to attend the programme4- Discuss the timing of the programme and its duration.5- Discuss the importane of books in the programme.- The books are already published children’s literarure, in which the writers are always acknowledged- Children’s storybooks for modern day children are short and include illustrations which is reflected in the reading aloud performed6- an important angel I want to be discussed in this chapter in the Diversity topic in the programme.Diversity in : presenters ethnicities, gender, religion, abilities for there were presenters with disabilities included, professions and dialects of English language. This Diversity is important to portray individually and highlight upon. Also diversity is portrayed in the choice of books and characters being portrayed to include all .
